Privacy Policy
This policy explains what information the Trekly app collects, how it's used, who it's shared with, and the choices you have. We've tried to write it plainly. If anything is unclear, email privacy@trekly.travel.
The short version. We collect what's needed to run your account, keep your travel history, and create your itineraries. We don't sell your data, we don't show ads, and we don't use third-party analytics or tracking. Photo-library scanning happens on your phone. You can download or delete your data at any time in the app.

1. Who we are
Trekly is a travel journal and planning app operated by Hazem Murad, an individual ("Trekly", "we", "us"). We are responsible for the personal information described in this policy.
2. What we collect
Account information
- Your email address and password. Passwords are handled by our authentication provider and are never visible to us.
- If you sign in with Apple or Google: the information that provider shares with us, such as your name, email address, an account identifier and, for Google, possibly a profile picture link.
Profile information
- First and last name.
- Nationality, any other nationalities, and country of residence.
- The travel interests you choose.
- Optional: a short bio and a profile photo.
Your trips
- Cities and countries you visited, and your travel dates.
- Your notes and ratings for each trip (overall, food, sights, people & culture, safety).
- Optional cover photos.
Planned trips and itineraries
- Destinations, dates, pace, interests and any special requests you enter.
- The itineraries Trekly creates for you, the ones you save, the activities you tick off, and your notes.
Messages to us
- If you contact support or report a problem, we receive your email and anything you include. "Report a Problem" pre-fills your app version and your device's operating system and version.
What we don't collect
- Your device's GPS location.
- Your contacts or calendar.
- Advertising identifiers, analytics or usage tracking.
- Payment information. Trekly is free.
3. Your photo library
"Find trips from photos" suggests past trips based on your photo library. It only runs if you allow photo access.
- The scan runs entirely on your phone. It reads the dates your photos were taken and the location stored in some of them, then compares those with city locations to suggest trips.
- Your photos and their location data are never uploaded. Only the trips you confirm are saved to your account (city, country and dates).
- The home cities and move dates you enter for this feature are stored only on your phone.
- You can turn off photo access at any time in your phone's Settings → Trekly → Photos.
4. Photos you upload
Your profile photo and trip cover photos are stored so the app can display them.
- These photos are stored at web addresses that anyone with the link can open. Trekly doesn't show your photos to other users, but please don't upload anything you'd want kept strictly private.
- Photos can contain embedded details, such as where they were taken. Some may be uploaded with those details intact.
- Replacing a trip's cover photo deletes the old one. Removing your profile photo or deleting a trip may leave the photo file stored until you delete your account. To have a specific photo removed sooner, email privacy@trekly.travel.
5. How we use your information
- To create and run your account, including sending verification and password-reset codes by email.
- To store and show your travel history, planned trips and itineraries.
- To create personalized itineraries and visa/entry notes (see section 6).
- To calculate anonymous city ratings and trip counts (see section 7).
- To answer your support requests and fix problems.
- To keep Trekly secure and to comply with the law.
We don't sell your personal information, use it for advertising, or share it with data brokers.
6. AI-generated itineraries
When you ask Trekly to create an itinerary, we send the following to our AI provider, Anthropic, to generate it:
- Your destinations, travel dates, pace, interests and any special requests.
- Your nationalities, so the itinerary can include visa and entry notes.
- Up to 25 of your past trips (cities, countries, dates, your notes and your ratings), so the plan reflects what you've enjoyed before.
We don't send your name, email address or account ID. Anthropic processes this information to generate the itinerary under its commercial terms. Please avoid putting sensitive personal details in trip notes or special requests.
Itineraries and visa notes are generated by AI and can be wrong or out of date. Always check entry requirements with official government sources before you travel.
The ready-made "Tourist" and "Local Vibes" itineraries for each city were written in advance and don't use your information.
7. Ratings and city stats
Your trip ratings are combined with other travelers' ratings to produce anonymous averages and trip counts for each city, such as "How travelers rate it". Your name and notes are never shown. If you delete your account, your ratings may remain part of these averages until the statistics are next recalculated; they can't be traced back to you.
8. Who we share it with
We use a small number of service providers to run Trekly. They may only use your information to provide their service to us.
| Provider | What it does | What it receives |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Hosting, database, sign-in, photo storage and account emails | All the account, profile, trip and itinerary data described above |
| Anthropic | Generates personalized itineraries | The information listed in section 6 |
| Apple, Google | Sign in with Apple or Google, if you choose it | Your sign-in request; they share your account details with us as described in section 2 |
| Unsplash | City cover photos, loaded directly from Unsplash's servers | Your device's IP address and standard browser-style request details, as with any image loaded from the web |
We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect the rights and safety of our users or others, or as part of a transfer of the app to a new owner, who would be bound by this policy.
9. Where your data is processed
Our service providers operate servers in various countries, which may include the United States. Your information may be processed outside your country of residence. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for these transfers.
10. How long we keep it
- We keep your information while your account exists.
- When you delete your account in the app, your account, profile, trips, itineraries and uploaded photos are deleted right away. See how to delete your account.
- If you ask us to delete your account by email, we'll do it within 30 days.
- Copies may remain for a limited time in our providers' backups and logs before they're overwritten.
- Information already sent to Anthropic for an itinerary is handled under Anthropic's own data-retention terms.
11. Your rights and choices
- Access and export: Settings → Download my data gives you a copy of your data.
- Correct: update your profile in Settings → Edit Profile, and edit or delete any trip.
- Delete: Settings → Delete Account, or email us.
- Photo access: turn it off at any time in your phone's settings.
Depending on where you live (for example, in the EU, UK or California), you may have additional rights, such as to object to or restrict certain processing, or to complain to your local data-protection authority. To make a request, email privacy@trekly.travel from the address linked to your account. We'll respond within 30 days.
12. Security
Your data is encrypted in transit, and access rules limit your trips and itineraries to your account. No system is perfectly secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security. If you think your account has been compromised, change your password and contact us.
13. Children
Trekly isn't intended for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, email us and we'll delete it.
14. Changes to this policy
We'll update this page when our practices change and revise the date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll also let you know in the app.
